Well Women | Be On Alert for Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is a serious disease that often begins as a lump in the breast. Like other cancers, it can become life-threatening if not detected and treated early.

Know Yourself

You can perform regular self-exams to check for signs of breast cancer. Be aware of how your breasts normally look and feel, and watch for any new lumps, changes in size or shape, or sudden pain. If you notice anything unusual, contact your doctor right away.
Get Screened
Your doctor can perform a mammogram—an X-ray of the breasts that can detect cancer you may not see or feel.
Women over 40 are encouraged to get a mammogram every two years, but younger women can also talk to their doctor about when to start screening

Talk To Your Family

Breast cancer can run in families. If possible, talk with older relatives to learn about any family history of the disease.
If breast cancer is part of your family history, your doctor may recommend starting screenings earlier.
Madison County Memorial Hospital offers mammograms through outpatient services.
Talk to your doctor about setting up an appointment today.
